Tips and tricks : Loose lay vinyl sheet maintenance

Quick, worry-free clean-up for a long-lasting look

To give your Loose lay vinyl sheet floor a long-lasting, attractive look make sure to clean up stains and spills as fast as possible.

• Move your heavy furniture using a sheet of plywood placed on the ground, under the furniture. Do not use casters on the Loose lay vinyl sheet as they can damage the surface.
• Install floor mats in entrances.
• Check the heels of shoes, especially high heels, to ensure that they do not mark the floor. Heel marks can be particularly stubborn and difficult to clean.
• Limit sun exposure by closing the drapes during peak day time hours.
• Clean the floor, using a broom or vacuum cleaner, regularly to dislodge dirt and dust. Do not use the mechanical broom function on your vacuum cleaner.
• Rapidly sponge up excess liquid using a paper towel. Wipe away excess liquid using a clean, damp, white cloth.

• Do not use dish soap, vinegar and water solutions, abrasive cleaners or any cleaner that contains a solvent. These cleaners will leave a filmy, matte finish on your floor.

Here's how to deal with the following stains:

Lipstick or ink

1. Rub the stain with a small amount of wood alcohol applied to a clean white cloth.
   If the stain is resistant:
2. Rub the stain with mineral oil or turpentine applied to a clean white cloth.
3. Sprinkle a domestic scouring powder on the stain and rub lightly with a nylon pad. Rinse, let dry and polish.

Felt marker or hair dye

1. Rub the stain with a small amount of wood alcohol applied to a clean white cloth.
2. Wipe with a clean white cloth on which you have applied some nail polish remover containing acetone. Rinse, let dry and polish.
3. Sprinkle a domestic scouring powder on the stain and rub lightly with a nylon pad. Rinse, let dry and polish.

Wax crayon

1. Rub the stain with mineral oil or turpentine applied to a clean white cloth.
   or
2. Sprinkle a domestic scouring powder on the stain and rub lightly with a nylon pad. Rinse, let dry and polish.

Grape juice or wine

1. Rub the stain with a small amount of wood alcohol applied to a clean white cloth.
   or
2. Sprinkle a domestic scouring powder on the stain and rub lightly with a nylon pad. Rinse, let dry and polish.

Black heel marks

1. Sprinkle a domestic scouring powder on the stain and rub lightly with a nylon pad. Rinse, let dry and polish.
   or
2. Rub the stain with a small amount of wood alcohol applied to a clean white cloth.

Paint or varnish

1. Sponge up excess liquid with a damp, clean white cloth. Remove the residue by scraping with a thin spatula.
2. Rub the stain with a small amount of wood alcohol applied to a clean white cloth.
3. Rub the stain with mineral oil or turpentine applied to a clean white cloth.
4. Wipe with a clean white cloth on which you have applied some nail polish remover containing acetone. Rinse, let dry and polish.
5. Sprinkle a domestic scouring powder on the stain and rub lightly with a nylon pad. Rinse, let dry and polish.

Mustard

1. Rub the stain with mineral oil or turpentine applied to a clean white cloth.

Nail polish

1. Wipe with a clean white cloth on which you have applied some nail polish remover containing acetone. Rinse, let dry and polish.

Rust

1. Sprinkle a domestic scouring powder on the stain and rub lightly with a nylon pad. Rinse, let dry and polish.
